Soho to Bloomsbury
Start Trafalgar Square. Leicester Square with its very many famous cinemas, into Chinatown, with a huge choice of ethnic restaurants and shops. Over Shaftesbury Avenue, street of theatres, into Soho proper. Known previously as a red light district this is now only a small part of a vibrant area. An important commercial area, with advertising, video and TV companies. A school, church, market, are evidence of the fight back against the sleaziness of the 1960s. Leafy Soho square, over Oxford St into genteel Bloomsbury with its squares, London University and the British Museum. Visit of the British Museum can be arranged or drop into a traditional pub. |
